You may know Nevada as the gambling capital of the country, drawing millions of tourists to its 24 hour casinos and gaming centers of all sizes in an otherwise vast and barren dessert. But wait, there’s more… it’s also the home of the Stratosphere, which is the tallest observation tower in the USA!
But did you know that Nevada is also the most mountainous U.S. State, with over 150 (named) individual mountain ranges; including the Battle, Monitor, Ruby, Santa Rosa, Schell Creek, Sierra Nevada, Snake and Toiyabe. Over 30 of Nevada’s mountain peaks exceed 11,000 ft. This makes for some fantastic skiing!
Nevada also has a rich mining history, and it currently ranks as the #1 producer of gold and silver in the U.S. It also produces a variety of precious and semi-precious stones and minerals such as turquoise, opal, quartz & amethyst.
